Nextbook Flexx 9 is a $139 Windows 10 convertible tablet

The dirt-cheap hybrid laptop, available at Walmart, features an 8.9-inch display, Intel Atom quad-core processor and 32GB of built-in storage.

Perhaps no company has taken more advantage of Microsoft's decision to offer a version of Windows with little or no licensing fee than E Fun, which has created a series of low-costlaptops and tablets under the Nextbook brand that have found a home at Walmart. Its latest continues the downward trend of pricing on Windows devices while tapping into the hot convertible portable trend.

The Flexx 9 comes in one of the three color choices: black, blue, or purple. It includes a detachable keyboard that features a USB 2.0 port on it. A micro HDMI port lets you attach the tablet to a larger screen, and the microSD card slot gives you a removable storage option. As expected, you also get Bluetooth 4.0 support and built-in 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi.The Nextbook Flexx 9 Tablet may be the lowest-cost Windows 10 hybrid on the market, with a price of just $139. While it's hardly a powerhouse, not surprising given the cost, it isn't completely crippled, using an Intel Atom Z3735G quad-core processor and including 32GB of built-in storage, though it skimps out on RAM with just 1GB of memory. (In comparison, the slightly larger, Windows 8.1 Flexx 10 comes with 2GB of RAM.) At 8.9 inches, its 1,280x800 touchscreen isn't going to compete with the Surface Pros of the world, but you're also paying a fraction of the cost of Microsoft's hyrbid.

E Fun's aggressive pricing and Walmart partnership have made it one of the leading U.S. shippers of "detachables," according to IDC. Creating a new one running the latest version of Windows and costing under $150 certainly won't hurt its market share. Don't be surprised if some of Nextbook's convertibles are highlighted as Black Friday deals by Walmart for the upcoming holiday shopping season, either -- the Flexx 9 could easily be a "doorbuster" that will cost even less than $139.

Even at the current price, the device fills the niche of a pseudo-laptop that younger students can use for schoolwork as well as play with it as a tablet.
